Word on the Street

Psych-up (sahyk-uhp) verb. To prepare psychologically to be in the right frame of mind or to give one’s best.

Usage example: “I guess LeBrons ritual of throwing talk in the air before every game, is some form of psych-up.”

Word trivia: A player in my old pickup league (*cough* Benny *cough*) used to have this psych-up ritual where he turn on some hardcore rap like Onyx on the stereo to the max. Then he tried on different attires like headbands, sweatbands, shoes, jersey’s… you know, to look fly! Last he fixed his hair (?) and hit himself on the chest two times. I guess it worked for him. The problem is that when you do something like this, especially in front of a mirror, you’re running the risk of becoming a girlie man. So whatever works for you, will do as a psyche-up… me? I just thinking about not fuckin’ up.

You would think that a b’ball stud like KG had a psych-up ritual that involved lots of screaming and chest banging? …But no …you’re wrong. Kevin eat peanutbutter and jelly sandwishes (?) before every game.
