Word on the Street

2-3 Defense (too-three dih-fens) noun. A zone defense where the defense set up 3 in the back, and 2 in the front.

Usage example: “When you play the Spurs you need to set up a 2-3 defense, because they got great baseline shooters.”

Word characteristics: The 2-3 defense or 2-3 zone is based on the other teams baseline shooters. Now you have 2 defenders (4 and 5) almost all the way out in 3-point land.

Defender number 3 is the key, he control the 2-3 Defense by talking to the other players.
